 This week saw another sad passing of a Mad Max alum, Tina Turner, The queen of Rock and Roll aka the ruler of Bartertown, Aunty Entity. Ride eternal, shiny and chrome! At the end of this post will be some words from George Miller about Tina.

Chain Reaction - Cinema Papers

This article from Cinema Papers is about the making of Chain Reaction and part of it discusses George Miller’s part in the production which brings me to a speculation about his growth as a filmmaker during this point of time. Not concrete facts but I can best deduce that the time between the release of Mad Max and Mad Max 2 amounted to a period of 23 months and now let’s examine what Miller did within that span. Again without solid facts but assumptions Mad Max begins its cinema release. At what point did WB, who were only making decisions based on non American box-office numbers, decide to green light a sequel? It was also a time when Miller began to process the Campbellian techniques of storytelling with his fellow writing partners while along the way progressing from a novice writer to possessing a fine tuned understanding of story. Then crafting a whole new screenplay for Mad Max 2. Set up pre-production. Then the actual movie shoot followed by editing and post. Throw in the fact that probably somewhere earlier in there he made time to do action unit direction on Chain Reaction. That's a packed twenty three months!

 If you were in San Diego on this day forty one years ago with this "Golden Ticket" or sheet of copy paper, then you would have had the priviliege of being among one of the first audiences in the US to see Mad Max 2. Promoters went for the hard sell to remind you that you could catch a screening of of Emmanuelle also if you went early!

Avalanche Mad Max game concept art

 Unless you are a gamer or have bundles of free time on your hands the world of Avalanche's Mad Max is other wise inaccessible or you have to endure youtube game play with someone else's narrative. I have the game but I'm a crap player and work doesn't allow much time to explore it. Which is a shame because it is such a richly developed world and what brings me to my second gripe... where the hell is the Art of Mad Max the game book? I have art books for Fallout, Rage, The Last of us, and Days Gone but no Mad Max. It's seems maybe a complicated situation with it connections to the upcoming Furiosa movie but it would be a great book to have. Here's a taste of what it could've been.
